Brilliant trip up to Southport to celebrate Sir Henry Segrave's land speed record driving the 4 litre Sunbeam Tiger along the sands. Edward performed faultlessly following the engine rebuild and was well received. Radiator now superb, problem was how to get the engine warmed up - I used kitchen foil to blank off the lower third of radiator.
We gathered on the sands - about 30 Sunbeams and the famous 350 HP Sunbeam v12 Land Speed Record car Bluebird. The mayor sat in the car for photos, it was on TV too - a good crowd despite the snow flurries. From the beach we took part in a parade of historic cars down Lord Street - ending with a reception in the Town Hall.
Great celebration dinner at which a lovely old chap recounted how he had been a small boy sitting on the sand dunes and witnessed Segrave's record run. Afterwards he had walked down to see the car and Segrave had sat him in it.
Drove back south via Liverpool for an interview - it was a giggle driving around Liverpool city centre in March, in the snow, in an open vintage sportscar. After the interview I drove Edward to Leatherhead avoiding motorways - down the A5, a lovely journey which built great confidence in the car.
